episode 2 - Hair Pulling & Wine Throwing

In this episode we define assault and battery and discuss the legal theory of self-defense. We use historical examples of housewife threats and hair pulls, and analyze the physical altercation between Monique and Candiace from a legal perspective. We also discuss provocation, which is the notion that defendants are less culpable when they lose "self-control.” This sounds reasonable, but which losses of self-control merit the law's compassion? It’s complicated.
